I ended up pulling the plug early on tonights OMISS 40m Net — someone (or some automatic thing) was periodically transmitting (rebroadcasting) the space shuttle and/or space station radio transmissions — at S9+30dB — without any care that the frequency was already in use. As far as I’m concerned this is intentional and harmful interference to net activities, and as such, quite illegal. WA3NAN seems to think that if they just auto-ID using Morse code every ten minutes that it reserves the frequency for their own use — and they can just break in and crush the ongoing transmissions with their obviously high-power transmitter whenever something comes along.
Not sure who gives a rats arse about this shuttle non-sense, but it seems like they should just use the internet for those listeners who care. Baring that, they should at least obey the law before causing obvious harmful interference!
Just this hams not-so-humble opinion after being QRM’ed into to oblivion tonight.
