Air Traffic Control Scandle – Much To Do About Nothing
I’m weighing in on the Air Traffic Control Scandal, where the controller allowed his kids to chat with pilots. In my opinion, the controller did NOTHING wrong. Clearly, the child was supervised the entire time, nothing bad happened. It is this type of experiences that excite and inspire children.

Handicapped Parking
I was reading the local paper the other day and found an editorial that I’ve always thought, but never seen anyone write about. The editorial was an argument to reevaluating the number of handicapped parking that should be set aside for shopping centers, workplaces, parks, etc.. The argument voices what I think we all thing as we drive up to our local shopping center and need to park a mile away only see a whole row of parking spaces by the door, unused. Most people understand the need for handicapped parking and support it, we just want the requirements for what needs to be set aside to be more in line with it’s usage.
The editorial was calling for the government to do a reevaluation and come up with updated requirements….we’ll I’ll second that!

Tragedy Overload?
Have you noticed how we heard very little about the Chilean quake in comparison to Haiti? Has Chile fallen victim twice, once to the quake and now to tragedy overload?

Google Sites
Created my first Google site today. It took me a little bit to understand how to edit it and I did not find it nearly as intuitive as wordpress, but it much better than website tonight from GoDaddy. Google does have some nice features that none of the other tools seem to have. You can create forms that connect to Google docs and there are other formats that allow for featured listings. I’m going to give Google sites a A-, they just need to work a little more on usability.

Spamers and more spamers
Somehow my blog is getting spammed on the comments side. Most of it is blatant and ugly trying to get link backs to sketchy and sometimes down right offensive products. However, there are some that are not so blatant, they say things like “You write good articles”, “Like your blog”, etc… They always include a URL back to a product site or blog site.
The good news is the spam filter on wordpress is very good and catches all of these. So, I can just delete them with a click of a button.

Thanks to a Few Helpful NYC Hams!
My Family and I went to NYC with another family over Memorial Day weekend. I had a little bit of time while the moms and daughters wrapped up their American Girl shopping spree to get on the air and get some ideas on what to see and do. I found activity on the W2CMA 145.230 repeater and looked up the PL tone (same as Paxton, 114.8). I found three hams from the area more than willing to offer up thoughts and ideas — Eric, N2RRA/m; Paul, WB2LIC/m; and Gordon, K2GLW/p (walking his dog in Central Park :-).
Eric, Paul, and Gordon, I’d like to thank you for our QSOs which I truly enjoyed…and thank you for all your ideas on possibilities for what to do and see. It turned out to be a great weekend, weather wise, and we saw plenty: Ellis Island, Time Square, East and West Village, Tomkin Square Park, Washington Square Park, Central Park, and, my favorite, accidentally stumbling upon Katz’s Deli for a Reuben and matza ball soup! Katz’s was on my list, but no one else’s but we all agreed while wandering and looking for dinner, that fate must have drawn us there!

Change a Light, Change the World (but Pace Yourself)
I just bought and watched “An Inconvenient Truth” — quite an eye-opener — and I recommend it to everyone and anyone. Anyhow, aside from now being more of a “light-nazi” that I already was — my wife is the worst offender in this dept, but my daughter’s not far behind — I decided to take an inventory of all of the lights in our house and see where using compact florescent bulbs would make sense. We’re already using some, but I figured it was time for a thorough assessment. Coincidentally, the winter catalog for Energy Star Lights just came in…and I selected over $150 worth of bulbs (not for every bulb in the house, but focusing on the lights that are used — or left on — more often). I just finished filling up my online shopping cart, but am now being told that I’m…
(rant on)
…limited to only six light bulbs a year!!!
You are only allowed to purchase 6 light bulbs as part of this promotion. Please make sure that the total quantity of all light bulbs in your cart does not exceed 6…thanks!
Apparently, they don’t want anybody going too far in their “Change a Light, Change the World” Energy Star promotion…we’re only allowed the change the world at a rate of 6 lightbulbs per household per year.
Sometimes the idiocracy in this country is truely…Un-Freakin’-Believable! We would have been oh-so-much better off if W didn’t win Florida.
(rant off)
OK, now I feel (a little) better, but I still need to figure out where to buy my energy saving light bulbs!!! At six a year, its going to take 8 years to get the 48 bulbs I need to feel that I’m starting to do something about global warming.

TikiBarTV.com
While listening to TWiT, a podcast I listen to regularly, I heard about a video podcast that sounded like fun called Tiki Bar TV. Since there’s nothing worth watching on HBO these days, I figured I’d give it a shot.
Bottom line is…these guys (Lala too!) had me LMAO :-) Definately not something to watch when Bryanna’s around, but I watched through the whole backlog and will continue to watch as they’re produced. I’m also learning alot about the science of “Mixology” if there’s such a word.
If I can find enough of these web based TV shows to keep me amused, then who knows…maybe we can cancel cable altogether (other than the high speed internet).

Just remembered, I really like “Lucky Louie” — but also Cancelled by HBO
I was looking for any excuse not to drop HBO after the final episode of Rome. I thought I had come up with it when I remembered Lucky Louie. A quick google search shot down this theory as well.
All I can say is, WTF! There really is no reason to stay. Grumph.
